The tour then takes us into what is perhaps Landmannalaugar´s most astonishing feature.  A rhyolite mountain range that is a kaleidoscope of colours. Hues of pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black and white adorn the mountains to provide a scene of unparalleled beauty. We then arrive at one of the pearls of the highlands - the water-filled Ljótipollur crater. There is an opportunity to relax after your gentle hike in one of Landmannalaugar´s famous geo-thermally heated springs.

 

The final leg of our journey takes us to Mount Hekla, one of Iceland´s most infamous volcanoes. Towering at a height of 1500 metres, (nearly 5000 feet) Hekla is highly active and a sobering reminder of the powerful forces that continue to shape this land. Located not far from the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, Mount Hekla opens up and we will see this rather traditional cone shaped volcano and considered to be Iceland's most famous and active volcano.
