Todo lo que necesitas saber antes de tu aventura en Landmannalaugar.
Landmannalaugar is a geothermal wonderland in the southern Highlands of Iceland, famous for its multicolored rhyolite mountains, natural hot springs, and the starting point of the famous Laugavegur trekking trail. It sits at about 600m above sea level and is accessible only by 4WD vehicles via mountain roads.
The highland roads to Landmannalaugar are typically open from late June to early October for summer tours. Winter tours operate year-round but require specialized Super Jeep vehicles. July and August offer the most stable weather, but early September has fewer crowds and beautiful autumn colors.
Landmannalaugar is approximately 180km from Reykjavík by road. The drive takes around 3–4 hours by regular vehicle to the meeting point, or 2.5 hours by Super Jeep via F-roads. Our tours depart from Reykjavík and handle all the logistics for you.
Iceland's weather changes rapidly. We recommend waterproof jacket and trousers, warm mid-layers, sturdy hiking boots with ankle support, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and a swimsuit for the hot springs. Bring a packed lunch or snacks, and a reusable water bottle — the highland water is safe to drink.
Most of our Super Jeep tours are suitable for children aged 8 and above. The Bus from Hella and Bus from Reykjavík tours are family-friendly with no minimum age. We do not recommend glacier or ice cave tours for children under 10. Please check individual tour pages for specific age requirements.
We offer a full refund for cancellations made 24 hours or more before the tour departure. Cancellations within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event we cancel a tour due to weather or road conditions, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.
Our tours depart from central Reykjavík (BSÍ Bus Terminal), and some tours also have pickup points in Selfoss, Hella, and Hvolsvöllur. Exact pickup locations and times are confirmed in your booking confirmation email.
Yes! One of the highlights of visiting Landmannalaugar is bathing in the natural geothermal pool. The water temperature is around 38–40°C and there are no facilities — you change on the riverbank. Remember to bring your swimsuit and a towel.
The standard highland (F-road) access is only possible from late June to early October. During winter, the area is inaccessible by regular vehicles. However, our specially modified Super Jeeps can reach Landmannalaugar year-round, making it possible to experience this magical place covered in snow.
